Every ceramic manufacturer formulates their own "body" composition using a variety of raw materials and clays, with some producers using sodium silicate and sodium carbonate as deflocculants due to their low cost. However, these alkaline substances can alter the crystallography or chemical composition of the clays used in the ceramic material's 'body'. This results in a slip that is excessively sticky.
On the other hand, the use of STPP/SHMP often leads to reversion or degradation to orthophosphates through hydrolysis during grinding in ball mills. Unfortunately, orthophosphates are not active dispersants but are anions that may promote flocculation or settling.
JAS Global provides innovative chemical solutions to our partners in the ceramics industry that introduce new technologies of organic auxiliaries. Our diverse product portfolio helps ensure the ceramic body has the right flow behavior and cohesion properties.
